At Vascular Specialists of Central Florida (VSCF), our providers offer safe, effective sclerotherapy to treat spider veins, small varicose veins, and other venous conditions.

Varicose veins affect about 35% of people in the U.S., often causing discomfort, cosmetic concerns, or both. For many, sclerotherapy provides a minimally invasive way to restore confidence and improve leg appearance—without surgery.

What Is Sclerotherapy?

Doctor examining a patients legSclerotherapy treats spider veins, small varicose veins, and related venous conditions by injecting a sclerosant—a medical solution—into the affected vein. This causes the vein to collapse and fade over time as blood naturally reroutes to healthier vessels.

Session length: About 30 minutes in an outpatient setting.
Typical plan: Most people need a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart for best results.

Understanding Spider Veins & Small Varicose Veins

Spider veins are thin, web-like red or purple veins near the skin’s surface. Small varicose veins are slightly larger and can appear raised or twisted. Causes include genetics, age, pregnancy, and long periods of standing.

Sclerotherapy can improve both the appearance and mild discomfort these veins may cause.

Side Effects & Safety

  • Small raised bumps at the injection site
  • Bruising or mild soreness
  • Temporary skin discoloration or “staining” spots
  • Mild itching or redness

Your VSCF provider will review potential side effects and aftercare before treatment.

Are You a Candidate?

You may be a good candidate for sclerotherapy if you:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding

Your provider will evaluate your medical history, medications, and vein health to determine if sclerotherapy is right for you.
